smaalders.net and the other websites above are hosted on our home desktop/server, connected over a Covad DSL line to the wild and wooly Internet. The hardware is a 2.6 GHz AMD dual core with 2 GB of RAM, and 4x500 GB disks. For software, we're running Solaris Express builds with Postfix, Dovecot, and Apache. ZFS manages the drives, while IPfilter keeps the ruffians at bay. Nmap and Ethereal are also useful .
