February 2009 --- After many years based in the Pacific Islands, I'm now back in the US.

Along with my long-time partner, Kim Des Rochers (she's co-author of our book, Tropical Cruising Handbook),
and Pele (below),
I've relocated to Orcas Island, the largest of Washington's San Juan Islands.

Our boat Nomad, on which we sailed thousands of miles in the Pacific,
has gone on to new owners in Australia, and we are for the moment without a large cruising boat.

Instead we have 23 acres on which are building a house (see our building blog).

A new boat will be next.

We have Douglas fir and Sitka spruce growing in abundance,
so expect some more designs that take advantage of these woods.
